"The devoted work of The American Chestnut Foundation in developing blight-resistant chestnut trees for the United States is an important example of private initiative protecting a precious element of our biological heritage. The chestnut tree — which used to be dominant over wide areas of the United States and which is now down to small remnants — deserves to be preserved as a part of America that, without your efforts, might never be known to future generations."

Dr. Peter Raven is the longtime director of the renowned Missouri Botanical Garden and is also an honorary board member of The American Chestnut Foundation. As one of the country's top botanists, his counsel and support have continually reinvigorated TACF's endeavors.
