Conservation - Planting Us

You can make a significant personal contribution to save my species by growing and planting pure American chestnut trees. Each spring, The American Chestnut Foundation ships limited quantities of wild chestnuts collected in parts of the original range. To participate in this program, you must pre-order to reserve your seeds through The American Chestnut Foundation kit program.

Trees grown from these nuts will not be blight resistant. Resistant trees produced by the Foundation will not be available until at least 2007. But the breeding work is only part of the challenge.

A more difficult problem the Foundation faces is that reintroducing this species requires working with tens of thousands of trees. By raising chestnuts in your area, you are essentially producing an army of trees. This will help the Foundation solve the challenges to come.
