Growing Up - Photosynthesis

As you know, animals must constantly search for food. But as a tree, I can just stand still and make my own food by a process called photosynthesis. It happens automatically, inside my leaves.

Here's my secret recipe: it starts when carbon dioxide in the air enters my leaves through tiny pores. In the meantime, water is transported to the leaves from my roots.

The sun's energy, which the leaves absorb, combines the carbon dioxide from the air and the hydrogen from the water to make sugar, my food.

The leaves then release the leftover oxygen from the water molecules, which you breathe. So, take a nice deep breath and thank my leaves!
